Museo de América
Madrid, Spain

Sculpted ceremonial seat. In this cultural context, the decorative attributes refer to the representation of a crocodile (triangles in the handle and mouth), or rather a human head (eyes and ears in the cylindrical body) with a crocodile mask. These types of pieces constitute a symbol of social rank and of belonging to a clan. Their discovery is associated with ceremonial centres and special funerary spaces.
