This fine example of a Early Dynastic (3000-2686 BC) flint knife, with its very fine flaking features a handle covered with a thin sheet of gold, inscribed with the name of King Djer, probably the third king of Egypt's long pharaonic history. This was undoubtedly of ceremonial use but its provenance is unknown, so that all context is lost. It was purchased in Luxor, so may have come from an area close by.
