Moorish Hall

Carl Friedrich Gustav Waehneldt (project)

Museu da República

Museu da República
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Space inspired by the Spanish Palace of Alhambra, located in Granada. In the image, the chandelier, walls and ceiling stand out, decorated with arabesque ornaments in high relief in blue, red and gold colors and people with clothes that refer to the Arab-Islamic aesthetic. Its space is associated with male sociability as it is used for smoking, playing games and holding meetings.

In this room the men gathered to smoke and play. The use of elements from Eastern culture to suggest exoticism and sensuality was characteristic of Western architecture during the 19th century.
