Sinseollo, or brass chafing bowl, is a pot for boiling a variety of meats, fish and vegetables. Sinseollo refers to both the pot placed on the table and the dish cooked in the pot. In the middle, there is a charcoal container, surrounded by a ring-shaped pot in which various ingredients would be boiled. It is paired with a lid so that its contents can be covered up while being boiled. It has a tall foot on the bottom, which has a hole to supply air into the charcoal in order to sustain the fire. During Jeong Hui-ryang's time in seclusion in the Joseon Dynasty, he invented a brazier based on the upward convection of boiling water to cook vegetables. This brazier came to be called sinseonllo, in reference to the lifestyle of Jeong as resembling that of a sinseon (Taoist hermit with mystic powers).
