Architect Josef Frank was among Vienna’s central designers of the interwar period; in addition to several buildings and various interiors, he designed a nearly unfathomable amount of furniture and fabrics, and he also joined together with Oskar Wlach to open the furniture store Haus & Garten in 1925. Frank was a vocal opponent of the industrial mass production of standardized everyday items, instead favoring a pragmatic style of design adapted to the needs of the users and the situation at hand.
