Chair Walker is an interactive robotic artwork that implements a multi-legged walking robotic system. In the form of a chair, it is designed to move away from people trying to sit on, using 12 servo motors, ultrasonic sensor and an Arduino. When the audience gets closer to the Chair Walker, it runs away as if it has feelings. As a chair that denies its original function and moves around freely, Chair Walker challenges the limitations of an object. Just like Luxo Jr. from Pixar, Chair Walker makes you wonder whether we can interact with everyday objects. The first series of Chair Walker was made in 2015, and the second edition with different color and motion was made in 2017. Chair Walker was exhibited at ‘Robot Party in Seoul (2015)’, ‘Robotronica(2017)’, ‘Holland Festival(2017)’, ‘ELEKTRA Montreal digital arts festival(2017)’ and ‘2017 Gwangju Design Biennale Special Exhibition’.
