This Turkish upholstered armless chair from the time period of 1880 to 1900. This was most likely another gift from Turkey, presented to Miss Barton for the relief efforts her organization provided in their region in 1896 after Turkish-Armenian conflict. At the age of 75, Clara Barton, led a small team of Red Cross workers to the Ottoman Empire, where there was famine, wounded and sick. It is speculated that the Ottoman government did not want the Red Cross there, even though they had signed the Geneva Treaty. Barton had to assure Ottoman government officials that she would act as an unbiased volunteer, assisting everyone, regardless of political affiliation or accusations.
