National Museum - New Delhi
New Delhi , India

Many icons of Jainism and Hinduism are similar, as a result of religious intermingling over the centuries. One such icon is that of Chakreshvari, who is also associated with Vishnu in Hinduism. Chakreshvari is one of the sixteen Mahavidyas in the Jaina tradition. The Hindu tradition also believes in the idea of ten Mahavidyas. She is eight armed and holds chakras(wheels) in six of her hands. One of the frontal hands holds a fruit and other is in gift giving gesture(varada mudra). A figure of Garuda, the mount of Vishnu is shown in front pedestal.
