Chapulín

The zoomorphic representations done by the master Mexicas sculptors are of a great naturalism. This piece, made of carnallite, a rock characterized for its intense reddish color, was found in the main pool of the baths of Motecuhzoma in Chapultepec. This place was very important in the history of groups of Nahuas in the Central High Plateau. Huemac, the last Tolteca ruler, hanged himself in the cave was of Cincalco, very near Chapultepec. The Mexicas, related to the Toltecas thanks to their King Acamapichtli, considered this site a sacred place. During their migration, before arriving to the islet in the lake of Texcoco, they settled down here for several years, from where they were expelled in the attack of different groups that lived in the Basin of Mexico.
