Walt Disney was inspired to create Donald Duck after he heard voice actor Clarence Nash do his “duck voice.” Disney sought to create a character that proved more pessimistic than Mickey Mouse. In 1934, Donald appeared in “The Wise Little Hen.” Donald danced to the “Sailor’s Hornpipe” and wore a sailor shirt, cap, and a bow tie. Just 9 years later, Donald won an Oscar for the animated short “Der Feuhrer's Face,” an anti-Nazi cartoon. He went on to star in a number of feature films and cartoons, and he has been a prominent character in popular culture for more than 80 years.
