Charles Kemble (1775-1854), brother of John Philip Kemble (see Beechey DPG111) and Mrs Siddons (see Reynolds DPG318) was a versatile actor, most successful in comic roles. He was also manager at Covent Garden from 1822. DPG291 may be one of the portraits of Kemble exhibited by Briggs at the RA in 1832 and 1835. Another version, formerly with Lady Butler, is in the Garrick Club.
