Pybus (1766-1810) was described by Beechey as ‘of an irritable temper & was always on ill terms with one person or other… very vain of his knowledge of pictures, but in reality knew nothing about them’.

Lord of the Admiralty in 1791-97 and of the Treasury in 1797-1803, he was a close friend of Noel Desenfans. In 1804 he was described as having ‘been in picture partnership with Desenfans for many years’."
