André settles in the city of Luxembourg as a lawyer in 1845 and joins the Freemason lodge. In March 1848, he will briefly take the lead of the workers of the city of Luxembourg. The catalog of far-reaching social demands he drafts with committed associates like the printer Nicolas Breithof(f), which includes a claim for a minimum wage, earns him the nickname "de rouden André." In the summer of 1848, André will resign himself to joining the constitutional liberals led by Norbert Metz.
