A charpai as its name suggests is a charpoy. Charpai literally translates to ‘four legs’, char means four and pai means leg. It is the most common vernacular furniture used for sleeping across Haryana. This charpai, placed in the courtyard of a residence, was primarily used for sleeping at nights. Sometimes, during the day, it was used by the women to sit and cut vegetables.
