With a 7.5cm long chain hanging from one of its end, this ox-shaped ornament has a length of 19.3cm. Forging and chasing was employed in the making of this item. As an old approach to mould metals, hand forging is an indispensable step in shaping silverware. And the ox-shaped decoration was realized mainly through chasing, an established technique to decorate the surface of metals with a relief pattern. This is how the vivid ox finally got to appear in front of the viewers.
