The making of this comb involves chasing, inlaying and forging. The details of the floral patterns on the comb was created by chasing, a time-honored metalworking technique of decorating by handwork the surface of a malleable metal by indenting it and so raising the design to create a relief pattern, using of a great number of differently shaped tracing tools, tracers, and a chasing hammer. Inlaying means setting pieces of a kind of material into the surface of an object to form a design, while hand-forging is an old metalworking skill employed to shape metals. The shape of this bracelet was finished by forging.
