In 1887, the chasuble is mentioned and illustrated for the first time in an exhibition catalog of the Austrian Art and Industry Museum of Austria. At that time, it belonged to the antique dealer M. Blum, Blumenauergasse 24 in Vienna. During the Viennese lace exhibition in 1906 in the Museum of Applied Arts the chasuble is in the possession of Viennese Ida von Gutmann-Wodianer. In 1938, the Gutmann family had to leave Austria and their art collection was aryanzied. In 1954, the owners were given back parts of the collection, including this chasuble. It remains on loan at the MAK – Austrian Museum for Applied Arts in Vienna. After Rudolf von Gutmann's death in 1960 the heirs offered the chasuble for sale. The Textilmuseum St. Gallen was able to buy it thanks to the Iklé-Frischknecht Foundation in 2004.
