Lukova created this poster to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, which coincided with the atomic plant catastrophe in Fukushima, Japan in 2011. She reinterprets the ancient sculpture of Laocoön and His Sons who were attacked by venomous snakes. Lukova replaces the serpents with the atomic model, speaking about the vulnerability of contemporary man. Humankind, possessing the power wrenched from the heart of the atom, can now threaten its own existence. Copyright @ Luba Lukova.
