Founded in the early 1970s by Arlene and Steve Chafitz, Chaftiz Inc. of Rockville, Maryland, was a pioneer in advanced consumer electronics. The company introduced Boris, its first dedicated chess computer, in 1978. After teaming up with Applied Concepts Inc., Chafitz produced the Chafitz Modular Game System. This example is configured for playing chess, but with other exchangeable modules users could also play checkers and Othello.
