Ágnes Nemes Nagy (1922-1991) : Chestnut coming

Ágnes Nemes Nagy is a significant poet of the 20th century, also an essayist and a reformer of the Hungarian literary translations. She translated mostly from French and German; the plays of Corneille, Racine, Moliére, the poems of Victor Hugo and Saint-John Perse, the works of Rilke and Brecht. The most important characteristic of her lyrical poetry is the objective world built in her poems representing an individually formed segment of reality, which mirrors her emotions. Her picture poem Chestnut coming brings about Apollinaire’s The Bleeding-Heart Dove and the Fountain. By the way Ágnes Nemes Nagy also pays her respects to Apollinaire in her poem entitled Apollinaire-imitation. The motive of the tree is particularly typical of the lyre of Ágnes Nemes Nagy representing the beauty, the forms and elementary forms of nature, symbolising the relationship of nature and mankind. Her hand-written bequest is to be found in Petőfi Literary Museum.

Nemes Nagy Ágnes a huszadik század második felének jelentős költője, esszé-és tanulmányírója, aki a magyar nyelvű műfordítások egyik megújítója is. Többnyire németből és franciából fordított. Az Újhold című folyóirat alapítója, mely a Nyugat eszmeiségét és minőségi igényét vállaló írói-irodalmi törekvések folytatója. A Petőfi Irodalmi Múzeumban található kéziratos hagyatéka. Lírája egyik legfontosabb jellemzője a verseiben sajátosan felépített objektív világ, mely a valóság olyan egyedileg formált metszetét jeleníti meg, mely híven tükrözi érzelmi állapotát. Nyíló gesztenye című képverse Apollinaire A megsebzett galamb és a szökőkút című költeményét juttatja eszünkbe. Apollinaire előtt Nemes Nagy Ágnes egyébként Apollinaire-utánzat című két versszakos művében (is) tiszteleg. A fa motívuma Nemes Nagy objektív lírája szempontjából különösen jellemző, amennyiben a természet szépségét, formáit, elemi erejét, a természet és ember kapcsolatát szimbolizálja.
