“Chief Blue Jacket” was inspired by the native American leader of Shawnee lands in the Ohio Valley that went by that nickname. His real name was Weyapiersenwah and was the predecessor of the famed Tecumseh. I am inspired by the their stories of fighting to protect their homes, families, and way of life. In America we have lost so much history of where we live due to violence and war between different cultures. The only thing that connects us to those of the past that lived here before us is the land. The more we advance our society the more we destroy of our environment and thus our connection to our past. This art piece was created to celebrate our connection to those that lived in Ohio long before us and to remind ourselves that we must learn from our mistakes and change our ways or be doomed to repeat our violent history. I believe art has the power to influence the masses and only great art can stir them to righteous action. If everything you ever knew, and everyone you ever loved was in danger of being destroyed, would you take a stand and defend them like Chief Blue Jacket did? - Ty Carroll
