Simchat Torah services in 1969 took place during a UJA-Federation visit. The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) returned to Romania in 1967 at the official invitation of the government. It immediately began to assist the aging Jewish community by organizing kosher canteens, nursing homes, and medical clinics. In 1969, in partnership with the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania (FEDROM), JDC provided financial and professional support for a network of Jewish institutional and social welfare services in Romania, including an extensive social welfare system that was established to assist elderly Holocaust survivors.
