Sand, fruits of birch, or small beans was/were put into small cloth bags. Girls tossed up the beanbags or let go of them below their elbow one by one, after shouting each time, ”Go below the large bridge (Okina hashi kugure)!” Baby-sitters tossed and caught two beanbags alternately to their temari-uta songs [songs sung by girls while they were bouncing balls many times].

This game was also called ohitotsu, and girls sometimes cried, “Ossharai!” while they were enjoying it.

There were lots of songs to which girls juggled, such as “Hi, fu, mi, yo, i mu, na, ya, ko, to (One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten),” etc.
