Half a pair of small, leather-soled children’s shoes with a strap and a metal buckle with rhinestones on the toe. For young children, often boot-like, warmer, more comfortable pieces were made, but similarly styled, open pieces that mimicked the decoration of adult shoes were not uncommon either. The leather sole shows hardly any signs of use.
The remarkably good condition of the object and the fact that only half of the pair survived suggest that it was a keepsake, probably the first pair of shoes worn by the owners’ child. Similar family relics are still preserved in many places.
