Following the devastation of World War II, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (“the Joint”) strove to ensure the survival of Jewish tradition and culture with Joint-supported cultural and educational activities. All of the Joint’s efforts took place within the political parameters of the country. At summer camps, Jewish children were able to embrace the richness of their heritage and traditions. It was an opportunity for relaxation, friendship, and Jewish comradery.
