Presented on January 5, 1779 for a door tapestry in the bedchamber of the Prince and Princess of Asturias at the Royal Palace of El Pardo.

It is a "...door tapestry the same size as [Boys Playing Soldiers and shows] 4 children playing: 2 are in a cart and another is dressed in Dutch style and playing a drum. The fifth child is playing a small trumpet. Its value is 1,000 Spanish reals."

Goya's canvas was stolen from the Royal Palace. After a period of its whereabouts being unknown, it passed through various American collections and the work is now at the Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio.

Three tapestries were woven from this cartoon. The one in the cathedral collection came from the estate of Acuña y Malvar. The other two are now part of the National Heritage collection, and are kept at the Royal Palace in Madrid and the Royal Palace of El Pardo.
