Child’s bracelet

Rijksmuseum van Oudheden

Rijksmuseum van Oudheden
Leiden, Netherlands

This stylish gold bracelet was intended to be worn by a child. It is oval in shape, unembellished, and has gold thread at each end. It is not possible to tell whether the bracelet is solid gold or has a different metal at its core. The bracelet is closed by pressing the ends together so that they overlap. They can be twisted around each other, enabling the size to be adjusted. As the child grew, the bracelet could be ‘stretched’.
