Chilkat Robe, Northern Northwest Coast

A Chilkat Robe featuring the Diving Whale design. During a research visit, Haida master weaver, Evelyn Vanderhoop, remarked that this is one of the oldest examples she has seen. This robe features all indigenous dyes, which suggests it was made prior to 1860.
