Basilisk resembling a mermaid of uncertain dating and unknown origin. The basilisks or chimeras are fantastic animals whose alleged relics were sold as real at high prices, in fact the results of the manual ability of skillful forgers, who were combining with mastery parts of different animals to form artificial monsters. This chimera was initially described as a "monkey body combined with a fish tail", but recent restoration analyses revealed a more complex nature, with wooden parts, mammalian hair and nails and different parts of fish.
