Chowki is a low surface, raised up from the floor on turned or carved legs. In Haryana, it is mostly used for ceremonial purposes like festivals, weddings and so on, specifically to place images of deities or ritual offerings. In everyday contexts, it would be used either in kitchens of houses or in commercial spaces to place various objects. It is sometimes used to sit on as well.
