Date: beginning of the third decade of the XVII century
Physical Dimensions: w59 x h74 cm
Painter: Giovan Pietro Rizzoli detto il Giampietrino
Description: From the church of Saint Thomas in Terramara in Milan, this panel painting has as its subject Christ Carrying the Cross, a theme which Giampietrino depicted on several occasions. The composition seems to be inspired by Solario, who, in turn, followed the Leonardesque model shown in the drawing by da Vinci now preserved in the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice. The stylistic elements of the piece, together with the influences of Solario, lead to the dating of the signed versions to the beginning of the third decade of the sixteenth century.
