Christ child among doctors

The table represents the last scene of the childhood of Christ as told by the Gospel. It refers to the moment when Christ comes into the temple with his parents and disappears in it for three days, starting a discussion with the doctors afterwards. Mary and Joseph, preoccupied, will find him at last and, after being interrogated, Jesus will excuse himself saying that he was dealing with his Father's business.

In this painting we may see Jesus in the middle of the discussion, surrounded by the doctors of the temple. The position of the hands, in computo digital, alludes to the knowledge of the Cabala and to the Cabalistic communication that Jesus establishes with the doctors in that moment.

It is very characteristic from this painter the care for the details he shows in the representation of the rich exhuberance of the textiles. This feature is especially obvious in the cloth from the canopy, and in the extremely luxurious golden clothing of the characters.
