From Crewe Photograph Collection. Christ Church, Crewe, July 1890.
The Anglican church was built by the Grand Junction Railway for its workers to worship at. It was designed in the Gothic Revival style by the architect, John Cunningham, and was consecrated in 1845.
The church and graveyard were extended several times and the tower was added in 1877. The nave and aisles were demolished one hundred years later, because they suffered from dry rot. The church was deconsecrated in 2013.
The Grand Junction railway and its successor, the London & North Western Railway also built accommodation for the workers at the newly founded Crewe railway works.
