  • Provenance: This painting was owned since at least the nineteenth century by descendants of Philip Van Rensselaer of Cherry Hill, Albany. Philip married Maria Sanders in 1768. She was the first cousin of John Sanders, who owned four other scripture paintings, two of which are painted in the same style as this, and it is plausible that Maria Sanders brought this painting to Cherry Hill
