Christ, the donor and the scribe

Sargis Pidsak1342

Chester Beatty

Chester Beatty
Dublin, Ireland

This manuscript was written by Sargis Pidsak, a well-known Armenian scribe and illuminator. In this miniature he has included himself (on the right) along with the donor, a priest, Tiratsu (on the left) kneeling in homage. Two other portraits of this artist survive, but this example is the latest of the three, where the artist has depicted himself as an old man.
