Alderman Edwin Sloper was the Chairman of the Alexandra Palace Trust from 1910, until retirement in 1919. He believed the Palace would have been better used as a military hospital throughout the First World War. He encouraged internees to make improvements to the grounds and for Christmas 1914 dressed as Father Christmas to entertain the Belgian and Dutch refugees at the Palace.
