The Christoffel chimney is the masterpiece of the Markiezenhof and was designed by Rombout Keldermans. Craftsmen from Mechelen made it and shipped it to Bergen op Zoom. The chimney weighs more than 20.000 kilograms and was named after St. Christopher, patron saint of travellers, who was at that time honoured by the Lords of Bergen op Zoom. In the period 1844-1973 the chimney was moved to the city hall of Bergen op Zoom when the Markiezenhof functioned as a military barracks. Nowadays, it is still to be seen on its original location in the Court Hall of the Markiezenhof in Bergen op Zoom
