The artistic career of Francisco Javier Parcerisa is marked out with historical reproductions and copies of monuments, becoming part of the traditionalist line of Catalonian Romanticism. In this particular drawing, silence and the passing of time are the protagonists. So much a part of the Romantic mentality, the ruins inspire us to reflect on time and death, present here in the sepulchres; the fragility of Man and the ephemeral nature of his passing through the world, obviously dwarfed by Nature and History, which are materialised here in the stylised gothic remains.
