Built over a natural mound this 14th century church once dominated the city. It displays a unique representation of the Athonic architectural type, with a fine dome and ceramic decorations which influenced the Serbian mastery afterwards. The most distinguished of all, is the depiction of the Infanticide, is a classic example of the final phase of the paleologan painting.
