This carte-de-visite shows the Church of St John the Baptist in Pendeen. Built with local granite from the nearby Carn Earnes quarries, this cruciform plan parish church was designed by Reverend Robert Aitken and opened in 1852. It was consecrated by the Bishop of Exeter two years later. Its design was based on that of the ancient cathedral of Iona.
The Church of St John the Baptist is listed Grade II.
