Church of St. Lawrence in Zhovkva is a monument of the late Renaissance of world importance. Zhovkva parish church was built on the initiative of Hetman Stanislav Zholkevsky, the founder of the city, from 1606 to 1618. The church is located on an artificial mound. Due to the large number of burials of the Polish nobility and the royal family of Sobieski, the church is often called Small Wawel. As a real pantheon of knightly glory, its facade is decorated with sculptures of warriors & weapons. The walls of the temple were decorated with paintings of the XVII century, which are among the largest battle paintings in the world. But now the paintings were transported to the Olesko Castle Museum.
