Funerary cippus in local Taranto stone on which a representation of the head of the deceased is carved, in accordance with Italic tradition. The practice of installing anthropomorphic grave markers in the necropolises is linked to the foundation of the Roman colony of Neptunia in 123 BC and the later conversion of the Greek city into a Roman municipium.
