This small commemorative plate is one of 80,000 which were presented to the children of Leeds in 1902 by the then by the Lord Mayor Ambrose Edmund Butler of Kirkstall Forge. They were intended to mark the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra on 26th June 1902. However, the Coronation was postponed when Edward VII fell ill and actually took place on August 9th. The plates were brought from William Hodgson & Son, glass and china merchants, 10 Bond Street, Leeds.
