City view of Masuda-cho, Yokote City, Akita Prefecture

Masuda-cho in the Yokote Basin in southeastern Akita Prefecture is located at the confluence of two rivers and has been one of the most prosperous commercial areas in Akita Prefecture since before the Edo period as a water transportation base where goods gathered. Even after the town was merged with Yokote City, large wooden buildings from that time still remain, and the town is a national traditional building preservation district.
