On March 30, 1960 approximately 2000 people peacefully marched through downtown Baton Rouge to protest the arrest of 23 Southern University students on March 28th in sit-ins protesting the downtown lunch counters that continued to refuse to serve African Americans. Shown here the group is standing outside of the gates of the Old State Capitol on St. Philip St.
