Clare Wood’s solo exhibition, The Unquiet Head, at The Hepworth Wakefield,in 2011, presented a group of new large scale paintings made in response to the landscape at Brimham Rocks, Yorkshire. The Unquiet Head was an exploration of our psychological relationship with the landscape; our fascination with, and fear of, its uncontrollable nature. Woods' paintings use the motif of rock formations found within the British landscape, monumental ancient stones thath have also been a formative influence on modern British artists including Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Paul Nash and Graham Sutherland.
