A clay, tobacco pipe. It is a commemorative pipe depciting Admiral Lord Nelson, HMS Victory and Britannia, so post-dating the Battle of Trafalgar in October 1805. Relief decorated bowls of this tyoe were produced durign the late 18th or early 19th century and tend to be regionally specific. It could have been made by the Russell family, who were working in Portchester village until 1872. Pipmaking continued in Portchester by the firm of Leigh and Company until 1932.
