Clay Uplands

A use of highly abstracted forms and elements in Beulas’s landscapes and still lifes is typical of his work at this period. In the present canvas a few broken brushstrokes and some light, speckled patches of pigment are sufficient to define and differentiate the strips of land and different crops or, in this case, fallow land. The chromatic range emphasises tones of ochre, warm browns, muted greens and greys although as a whole the tonality is achieved by the juxtaposition of shades of different colours.
