Hiroshige1841-1842

San Francisco, United States

This print is one of fourteen scenes in Hiroshige's series Newly Selected Famous Places in Edo.
This work captures the fresh, joyous feeling that prevails after a snowfall has ended—even though the snow on the bridge and the roofs of houses has not yet melted away, and people are still wrapped in warm clothing and walking with umbrellas. Now that the fog has cleared, boats can be seen passing or docking at the piers behind the storehouses. Mount Fuji can be seen at the far right.
