This is a contemporary interpretation of an Chinese calligraphic style, known as the "Black Tiger" style, which is an imitation of the effect of ink rubbing by reversing the traditional spatial effect of Chinese calligraphy with the characters in negative space. In the past, ink rubbings were an important medium for reproducing and preserving documents of monumental importance. This work resembles an ink rubbing of textual records engraved on stone tablets, but the content is about Tsing Ma Bridge in Hong Kong today. The incongruous assemblage merges the past and present in one evocative piece.
